ALFRED SHAHEEN WAS ONE OF THE MOST CREATIVE AND PROLIFIC OF ALL HAWAIIAN MANUFACTURERS IN THE HEYDAY OF 50'S AND 60'S FASHION.
His textile designs, inspired by Hawai'i, the South Pacific and Asia, are legendary. Born into the industry, he built the most comprehensive textile printing, garment manufacturing and retail company Hawai'i would see of the period.
Attracted to the fine cotton fabrics and the authentic South Seas designs, Reyn McCullough approached Shaheen in the early 60's about the possibility of obtaining a select grouping of these exotic works of art for use within his Reyn Spooner, Hawaiian Traditionals®, men's sportswear collection.
Impressed by the high standards of quality that Reyn demanded his product and mutual business philosophy, Shaheen made a rare exception in allowing another Hawaiian manufacturer to interpret his exclusive designs to wearable art. Thus, the beginning of a relationship that endured through the period.
